I got my first project one part excited, one part nervous.

I was working with two young women entrepreneurs who were embarking on the journey of opening up their first retail clothing store. The store is located inside an old bungalow with high ceilings (a designer’s dream) but old homes come along with its own problems- crumbling walls, damaged piping, the list goes on..

Although I was convinced on the decor & we decided on installing customized brass rods, tufted table, a tea corner and 6 feet wide double french doors (curved on the edges- small touches make a difference).

Working with small spaces is always pretty challenging, but you learn a lot from it. The space lacked adequate sunlight so I knew we needed to play with light colors!

(Design tip: It's a myth that you need to use light colors only in small rooms, it all depends on the amount of natural light you receive in a space)

The previous wall color was a dusty grey and the white sea-shell color paint already opened out the space. We also installed distressed full-length mirrors- a great way to make the space feel bigger, and it definitely did.

After designing & placing a pink velvet tufted counter for them, I wondered on what we could hang behind their billing desk as it looked too simple & plain. Their logo sprang up, which was easy to custom make and we went with the first idea that came to my mind-- DIY flower art. They loved it!

So we did it!!

Process: Size your wall, and stencil out the design on the wall. Get your carpenter or hardware store to cut your plywood/MDF sheet into the measured sizes. Buy faux flowers, spray paint and some hot glue. Spray your plywood after sanding them down, and stick your flowers how you like. I LOVE how this turned out to look in their beautiful boutique.

Go check out this store (Millennial Mode), where fashion and interiors collaborate to create a lovely ambience.
